about
From the upcoming release: Time/Travel
Time/Travel is an album composed of older songs of mine that either were never finished or didn't make it onto albums for whatever reason. I only wrote one new song for this album, and did two arrangements of covers; all other songs are old ones that have been sitting around (marinating, if you will) for a while.
This is our first take of the sessions that went on to become Time/Travel. My baby grand piano currently lives in the studio at Rarefied Recording, and we did live takes of all the songs on the album as a core trio of bass, drums, and piano. I was just recording scratch vocals to guide everyone, but thanks to a plate reverb the size of a car, some tracks became so good live that I couldn't recreate the magic during vocal overdubs. This was one of those songs.
Street After Street was written around the same time as the songs from 2013's Geography and Other Problems, so if it sounds familiar, perhaps that's why. It ultimately ended up being too similar to many of the songs on that record to fit there, and I didn't finalize the lyrics until right before we went into the studio in May.
Looking forward to sharing the entire album with you.
lyrics
Street after street calls out your name
I know I'll never be the same
city by city, day by day,
thoughts of you are the thoughts that remain
Remember walking hand in hand?
Please tell me that you'll never forget
Maybe I'll see you tonight
Every once in a while, you come along
to ease all the pain inside
Every once in a while, in my dreams,
when I'm alone at night
I'm only dreaming, but it feels so true
and all I want is for you, for you
to hold me tightly, nightly or more
You're the one, you're the one I adore
I long to feel your hand in mine and
walk through the moonlight side by side
Maybe I'll see you tonight
Every once in a while, you come along
to ease all the pain inside
Every once in a while, in my dreams,
when I'm alone at night
When will I see you, when will I know?
When will my heart stop skipping beats like they're stones?
I'll come to see you, you name the place
You know, time's all relative anyways
I long to feel your hand in mine and
walk through the moonlight side by side
Maybe I'll see you tonight
Every once in a while, you come along
to ease all the pain inside
Every once in a while, in my dreams,
when I'm alone at night
